The Vintage Maillot
Calling all my beach people! Add this suit to your list of summer "effortless essentials."
I love a retro look in a classic cut. Maillot is another term for a woman’s one-piece swimsuit, and generally consists of a tank-style torso with high cut legs (which works great on a short frame, did you guys know I'm only 5'3?!) A leggy cut creates an ultra flattering shape, and with its deep back scoop, an even more throwback feel.
There are multiple swim brands that offer this classic cut and perhaps one of the most elegant is by Solid & Striped, known for their luxury swimwear line.
The Solid & Striped version has been completely sold out of this pattern for months! (I may have shed a few tears over passing up the opportunity to buy the petal pink when it was first released.) I've been scouring the internet for just this exact look and have already been frolicking through the weekend sporting it!
This style suit is designed to be worn, lived in, and welcomes spontaneity.
Look for a maillot style in elongating vertical stripes, playful gingham or a solid pop of bold color. It's a little bit sporty, but still super feminine. Plus, it looks super cute outside the beach realm paired with a flowery skirt or denim cut-offs. You seriosuly can’t go wrong with this effortlessly chic coastal style for an iconic seaside aesthetic.
Besides a fab swimsuit, here are my must-have beach accessories: a wide brim straw hat, an artful bamboo bag, and a bright beach blanket. Add in some sunscreen (I keep hearing about how great this brand is, have you tried?) a seashell sandcastle, and a glossy inflatable for good measure. (This popsicle one by Wembley makes me melt!)
If you are more of a two-piece kind of gal, I also own this Solid & Striped bikini style, purchased off Poshmark! (Have you heard of Poshmark? It’s a site where you can shop/sell gently used designer brands! Shop my account here.) I love the vintage vibes of this high waisted aqua and cream! (Pics to come soon!)
I am not afraid to get a sandy beach bum, and a maillot style suit is a great way to feel confident and comfortable. By investing in an everlasting swim style that will take you through beach front holidays and sunset dips in the backyard pool, you are sure to have lots of lots of seaside beautiful times! Happy beach-strolling!
In the next couple weeks I am going to scatter in a few extra posts on my favorite swimwear! We spend so much of our time in and on water, so I am always on the hunt for great swim brands and I have so many beloved swim styles I want to share with you! What style swimwear is your go-to? Do you have a favorite swim brand? I'd love to hear in comments below!
