Top Knot Boutique: Your Best Friend For Summer

Summer trends go way beyond floral, although I must admit I love blending in with a wildflower garden.

Allow me to introduce you to Top Knot Boutique, an affordable online boutique, currated by my friends and fellow busy mamas who are on a mission to help women balance life’s many roles with fashionable ease.

I’m so smitten!

Top Knot Boutique or TKB is all about the reinvention of good ol’ classics with effortless on-trend aesthetics. Each piece featured is hand-picked by Hannah and Anita. (Read more about theses two lovelies and the "behind the scenes" on their blog here!)

Top Knot hits that sweet spot when it comes to comfort and clothing for morning, noon, and night. Laid-back, cute and easy. They carry the softest everyday pieces that brilliantly transition from work to weekend. What I love about boutique style clothing is the attention to detail. They make it easy for you to find an item that has my three musts: affordable, exclusive, and compliment worthy.

Top Knot has a great selection of slouchy tops with artful touches, timeless dresses that are so very much of the times, and that unexpected tomboy-sexy that will elevate your outfit top-knot ballerina bun and all!

Scroll on to see my selection of the ones that I’m keeping on my list of “must buys” for summer/vacation holiday 2017 and let me know which trend is your favorite!

What is a summer trend forecast without beloved stripes?! This season the print comes in all forms, but my favorites are in contrasting blue and white hues!

This open-shoulder top with little bell sleeves is sure to make you belle of the BBQ! I’m already planning a vineyard picnic with this sweet fitting cutie in mind. So easy. I paired mine with cream and lace shorts, but any type of denim would work just as seamlessly.

Wearing TKB first look exclusive! (Keep an eye out for this is a soon-to-be new arrival!)

Shoulder baring tops have taken to the next-level with a few ultra femme and frilly touches.

The color of clementines, peaches, and tangerines, this darling top will make a summer glow sing. Doll it up with a skirt, or pair it down with dark-wash high waisted denim, this look is grown up and girlie.

Blush Pink

The new neutral.

These knotted mule sneaks are the ultimate summer companion. Way to combine super comfy, supportive and adorable, TKB!  All in a shade that leans towards the earthier end of the pink pallet - that hint of warmth makes them subtle enough to wear with all! (Only $25!)

I’ve been seeing this trend everywhere and am so drawn to the disregarded edginess of it. I do find it a little tricky – the distressing has to be done just right  – or this look can come across disheveled. This one has a high-low vented hem with a tattered design. The soft pink color and oversize comfy distressing hit all the right places!

Look 2:

I had to style this distressed top two ways (I just like it so much) – above, with heels to show you guys how easy it can be to style something like this up, and one with my sneaks and the dreamiest TKB kimono. This kimono might be one of my favorite pieces in the shop. It can be worn as a swim cover up, or to add a light layer of interest. The sheer shades of pink, tassels and the teal accent trim are on point!

Graphic Statements/Slogans

Unless you’ve living under a rock, you should know by now that wordy tees  are absolutely everywhere. From subtle word stitching to instagram friendly “hashtags” this trend is hard not to mention.

I am in love with this tank. It has ALL the good vibes! The fit is so cool – it’s cut to flatter. Just right for that “little to no effort look.” I know that’s how I like to get dressed!

(TKB also carries cute slogan baseball caps and hats. They have some new arrivals I can’t wait to get my hands on!)

Back to Black

How To Wear All Black

All black outfitting is fashion-y in any season, but the moment the temps start to cool down, I immediately turn to my black basics.  As follows: leather jacket, ankle boots, plain tee, faded skinny jeans.

The key to this look is interesting textures, structure, and lines. These elements will create contrast for a striking style. Use your knit sweaters, sheer airy tops and velvet anything (at least this season anyway.)

All black outfitting can be the ultimate rocker girl style, or effortlessly chic (Audrey Hepburn.) Black is sliming. Black looks good on all skin tones and with all hair colors. Try to avoid looking boring AKA head to toe cotton, by balancing fabrics and an intermixture of accessories. Add a swipe of bold lip color; loop a belt around your waist to keep a figure.

A cool weather winner, black is always the classiest. For this look I went for a slenderizing silhouette with lots of leather to contrast the full skirt and pleated sophistication. The high waist could also be styled with a flirty crop top and squared off heels or you could give this party profile an edge with shiny moto boots and a graphic tee, or keep it sweet with an oversized sweater.

This faux leather jacket is new and quickly becoming one of my go-to favorites. A leather jacket is an every-girl wardrobe basic. I love how this one has lots of texture in the shoulders and back with the ribbed details and zips.

As for the backpack, I’ve wanted one for while and chose this style for it’s medium size, simple structure, and top handle carrying option. The straps are adjustable, and it’s so nice to sling it over my shoulders and not think about it again. (Especially going anywhere with the kiddos.)

Whether you are a color-lover, minimalist, or a true too-cool-for-color-pro, it’s ok to go a little Goth once in while. Charming or dark and moody, Wednesday Adams or Coco Chanel, all black is anything but basic. So get out here and be a little ray of pitch black.

Summer to Fall Transition

*Sigh* I wish summer would last all year long. It’s my personal favorite season. I love the sunshine and simple ease of warm-weather dressing. So how do you stretch your favorite summer duds into the cooler months? It’s a challenge for sure, but there are ways to shift a super summery outfit into something "fall-ish' and wearable during the upcoming cooler months. (Without looking like a wandering vagabond.)

I purchased this ruffled off-the-shoulder top and dusty rose maxi skirt back in the spring, with vacation in mind. These pieces have gotten a lot of screen time this season as I’ve worn this exact outfit for multiple occasions. Specifically, a romantic ocean side dinner date with my husband while in Cancun, and for a ‘splashy’ photo shoot with my sisters this past July.  <3 (As seen below.)

This goldenrod pom-pom adorned top is as spicy as a salsa dancer. It’s a warm weather hero, but it’s also a great option for fall because of its color. The OTS (off-the-shoulder) top, which has been hugely popular this summer season, is possible to transition as temps drop. Take cover in laid-back layers, by tossing on a fringe poncho, cropped jean jacket or leather jacket.

A bright and boho-inspired poncho always pairs well with ankle booties (with cute socks to keep your toes warm) and a wide brim hat. If a poncho isn’t your thing, a long cardigan or blanket scarf work just as well.

As for the dusty rose maxi skirt, it’s in a shade that also works with the warm, rich hues of fall. Mixing the right shades is key in bringing summer colors into a fall pallet. What I love about maxi skirts is how they feel appropriate for almost any occasion. It’s an easy piece to dress up or down. In this post I featured a full and billowy maxi skirt, and as you can see here, the difference a more fitted profile creates.

Again, play around with layers. Take your favorite summer skirt or dress and slide on a pair of thick ribbed tights under that maxi, or mini. Once it feels too cold, raw-hem jeans, vintage flares or leather bottoms are also great options for accosting crisp weather.

Maximizing your summer wardrobe just takes a little remixing. That sweet floral party dress just needs an edgy jacket. Military, once again seems to be everywhere this fall. Layers are key.

Don’t forget you can always use accessories to update a recurring look. Jewelry is a fantastic way completely transform an outfit. Layer on additional necklaces, switch up your earrings. Swap out your straw clutch for something sleek with texture. And as always, add a pair of big oversize shades -- no matter what the season!

Do you have any special tricks you use to take a look from summer to fall?
