Top Knot Boutique: Your Best Friend For Summer

Summer trends go way beyond floral, although I must admit I love blending in with a wildflower garden.

Allow me to introduce you to Top Knot Boutique, an affordable online boutique, currated by my friends and fellow busy mamas who are on a mission to help women balance life’s many roles with fashionable ease.

I’m so smitten!

Top Knot Boutique or TKB is all about the reinvention of good ol’ classics with effortless on-trend aesthetics. Each piece featured is hand-picked by Hannah and Anita. (Read more about theses two lovelies and the "behind the scenes" on their blog here!)

Top Knot hits that sweet spot when it comes to comfort and clothing for morning, noon, and night. Laid-back, cute and easy. They carry the softest everyday pieces that brilliantly transition from work to weekend. What I love about boutique style clothing is the attention to detail. They make it easy for you to find an item that has my three musts: affordable, exclusive, and compliment worthy.

Top Knot has a great selection of slouchy tops with artful touches, timeless dresses that are so very much of the times, and that unexpected tomboy-sexy that will elevate your outfit top-knot ballerina bun and all!

Scroll on to see my selection of the ones that I’m keeping on my list of “must buys” for summer/vacation holiday 2017 and let me know which trend is your favorite!

Stripes

What is a summer trend forecast without beloved stripes?! This season the print comes in all forms, but my favorites are in contrasting blue and white hues!

This open-shoulder top with little bell sleeves is sure to make you belle of the BBQ! I’m already planning a vineyard picnic with this sweet fitting cutie in mind. So easy. I paired mine with cream and lace shorts, but any type of denim would work just as seamlessly.

Wearing TKB first look exclusive! (Keep an eye out for this is a soon-to-be new arrival!)

Ruffles

Shoulder baring tops have taken to the next-level with a few ultra femme and frilly touches.

The color of clementines, peaches, and tangerines, this darling top will make a summer glow sing. Doll it up with a skirt, or pair it down with dark-wash high waisted denim, this look is grown up and girlie.

Blush Pink

The new neutral.

These knotted mule sneaks are the ultimate summer companion. Way to combine super comfy, supportive and adorable, TKB!  All in a shade that leans towards the earthier end of the pink pallet - that hint of warmth makes them subtle enough to wear with all! (Only $25!)

Distressed

I’ve been seeing this trend everywhere and am so drawn to the disregarded edginess of it. I do find it a little tricky – the distressing has to be done just right  – or this look can come across disheveled. This one has a high-low vented hem with a tattered design. The soft pink color and oversize comfy distressing hit all the right places!

Look 2:

I had to style this distressed top two ways (I just like it so much) – above, with heels to show you guys how easy it can be to style something like this up, and one with my sneaks and the dreamiest TKB kimono. This kimono might be one of my favorite pieces in the shop. It can be worn as a swim cover up, or to add a light layer of interest. The sheer shades of pink, tassels and the teal accent trim are on point!

Graphic Statements/Slogans

Unless you’ve living under a rock, you should know by now that wordy tees  are absolutely everywhere. From subtle word stitching to instagram friendly “hashtags” this trend is hard not to mention.

I am in love with this tank. It has ALL the good vibes! The fit is so cool – it’s cut to flatter. Just right for that “little to no effort look.” I know that’s how I like to get dressed!

(TKB also carries cute slogan baseball caps and hats. They have some new arrivals I can’t wait to get my hands on!)

Arm Candy

Jessica Wagner

The Hair Tie Bracelet

Raise your wrist if you are part of the hair tie club!

Whenever I leave the house, the last thing I (used) put on was a black hair tie around my wrist. As a habit, my long hair usually ends up in a ballerina bun on top of my head to keep it out of the way and under control. No matter what the occasion, the option to change up my hairstyle at the flick of a wrist has always been a part of my outfit.

The issue with elastic hair ties is they don’t look nice on your wrist, especially when you are dressed up for a night out. I had taken to stuffing them in my purse and car council. The search for a spare rubber band can turn ugly (don’t touch that bound up newspaper unless you want to witness rubber eating a healthy chunk of hair.) I don’t know about you, but I don’t always have my car or bag with me (although they do make spacious hair tie containers.)

You can imagine my utter excitement when my new friend and Arm Candy designer Cay introduced me to her minimalist cuff bracelet that also doubles as a hair tie holder. The fusion of fashion and function in one little genius piece makes the organizer in me so happy. It’s a simple stylish solution to the convenience of always wanting a hair tie on hand. (A place for everything and everything in its place, as my mom likes to say!)

Since discovering this clever styling trick, I have put my Arm Candy cuff to use by matching complementing hair ties to my outfits. (See this post, this post and this post.)

You can layer them up, like I did in today’s post, with a playful myriad of colors, or wear with a single hair band. The real beauty of this piece is that it looks just as chic on it’s own or when sporting a hair tie.

Show off your team spirit, add some glitz, or blend cheery prints. You can use any hair tie you like, (not just the one it comes with) which is what makes this accessory so brilliant.

For this look, I wanted to play off the preppy light pink tennis skirt, (hence the backdrop. No I have never played tennis before, so feel free to make fun of my poor form.) The little skirt pleats remind me of school days, so I paired it with a cashmere varsity style sweater. (A simple cashmere sweater is a closet must-have in my book.) These Zara shoes have become my most favorite this past season, but I will probably be swapping them out soon for these zipped ankle boots (also from Zara) that I’ve been saving my pennies up for.

Arm Candy bracelets are available here in silver or gold. They are adjustable to fit and can hold one or multiple bands. You can also request customized engraving. (Not to mention they make great gifts! Check that of the Christmas list for you OCD types like me already thinking ahead.)

Collegiate to classy, this accessory brings simple elegance to an otherwise ordinary accessory. Shop for yours here and never worry about needing to borrow a hair tie again.

Welcome

discovering and identifying personal style

Happy weekend guys! Welcome to The Weekender - A Fashion Field Guide.

Typically, a field guide is designed to identify wildlife birds/flowers or other aspects in nature through photographs and drawings, and organized by color, shape, location or other descriptors.

The Weekender is about discovering and identifying personal style. My “field” exists between Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This is where I find myself most style-conscious. Organizing an outfit by color, shape, and location. (Just like a field guide – but for fashion.)

I’m a creature of fashion. I believe the more glamorously strange the better. Personal style is an evolution and here you will find a place to explore with endless options of self-expression.

Taking an outfit that “sort of works” to “polished loveliness” is a challenge. Think of the times you felt most polished and lovely. It takes effort (amiright?) It takes thought. It takes feeling. Usually it's the finishing touches that complete a look.

If you love vintage, romantic, bohemian, mixed with a classic touch of the Audrey Hepburn - this is your place for inspiration. Darling and daring.

Through photography, (and hopefully some artful brilliance!) I wish to leave you feeling that you too can master your style, and show you how. Fashion is about taking risks and sometimes making mistakes. We’ve all looked back on those photos with a smirk, and hey, that’s ok! That’s part of the adventure.

Fashion is always evolving, and in a sense, finding your style is a journey all of it’s own.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy!
