Think of this post as your holiday party crash course.

It’s officially that time of year, tis’ the season to spin in sparkly skirts and dance the night away.

Holidays arrive with endless party invites, and the perfect excuse to get dolled up. Shiny shoes, statement jewels, a bold lip… the more metallics the merrier!

Whether you have a holiday happy-hour, a formal dinner affair, or a family gathering, this season is all about infinite shine. With so many acceptable options to choose from, it can be hard to decide what to wear. From silver standout dresses to glittering separates and metallic sneakers – they all seem to be making a case for evening attire.

Like anything else, it’s about knowing what works best for you, when aiming to attract that cosmic energy.

This liquid silver skit from Anthropolgie is all dazzle and softness. Is anything more festive than sparkle and shine!? I’ve been after a metallic pleated skirt for a while now, and fell in love with this one because the material is fluid and reflective, so no need to worry about leaving a trail of glitter or sequins. It runs a little big, so size down, but it’s sooooo fab! Lightweight, comfortable, and flattering. Dressy to casual - you can always skip the strappy heel and add a chunky boot (perhaps in white!) for a fresh combo that equals that laid back holiday look.

Layer on space-age silver accents with pieces like this pearl encased clutch and luxurious white beaded texture necklace from Stella & Dot. This statement necklace has four shades of stones that look stellar set against, black, grey, white or other neutrals. (I could even see it paired with blush or mint!)

As for keeping warm, electrify the night in a pristine white coat that captures the essence of the first snow of the season. There’s something magic about this time of year that infuses the air and beckons you closer, inviting you to snuggle up inside a warm, cozy jacket and a cheeky knit cap in flawless frosty fashion.

So, cozy up in minerals and metallics, mimicking the night sky’s flashes of light and evidence of distant stars. Don’t forget to look up and simply be captivated by the sparkling, white flakes as they flutter and fall kissing lashes and dusting the earth in a glitter all her own.

Basics with a Twist

Because sometimes all it takes is a swipe of classic red lipstick (and a crushed pumpkin spice latte.)

Autumn brings so many styling opportunities. From drapey dresses and snuggly sweaters to structured jackets and statement boots.

While there are an endless number of ways to create an amazing outfit this fall, here is a simple one to inspire you.

Go fresh-faced, and accent with statement lip. (My current favorite is Chanel Rouge Coco in Arthur, but really any bright shade will do the trick.) Keep it easy and effortless. Slip into stripes and add your favorite weekend jeans.

I’m always on the hunt for minimal pieces with that extra something. Basic, yet elevated.

These high waist jeans are a perfect example, classic with a twist in the raw edge ankle and multi-button closure. (Plus my coffee-guzzling partner in crime here, keeping it simple in her black and white checks, and black boots.)

While I have a closet full of striped tops (don’t we all?) this particular one is unexpected in it's structure and crop (and it's less than $20!) The sheen makes the black against white pop – it’s about playing with contrasts. (The clean backdrop makes those red lips stand out in the best way!)

Add is some minimal flats (with that Zara edge) and a simple leather bag and your golden, girl!

Sophisticated and relaxed, for a weekend of fun or on the run.

All Occasion Dress

Anthropologie: Madera Maxi Dress by Bhanuni

Every wardrobe should have one go-to lush, detail-rich dress. Think of it as a secret weapon for those spontaneous special events.

It’s great when you have the time to search out that perfect party outfit, but sometimes you only have a few hours notice. The solution is having an all-occasion dress on hand, one that works in any season and can be worn to multiple events.

When searching for a swoon-worthy gown, look for thoughtful touches that make the dress unique. Maybe it’s elaborate in structure or decoration. Perhaps it’s made of an unusual fabric, color or print.

The obstacle when shopping for an elegant dress is being able to weigh price verse wear-ability.

So, while there is no way that magnificent dress is going to get the same airtime as your favorite pair of jeans - hear me out- jeans on the rare, are truly magnifiqué! A gorgeous frock is probably going to take a dip into your clothes budget, so make it worth the investment. When you find something that meets your criteria, and makes you feel like a million, splurge. That's what makes it "special." Choose a dress you would wear traveling Europe, attending a up-scale cocktail event, or even to mark an unremarkable day! There's always a reason to celebrate, so find "the one you can't live without" and wear it every chance you get.

I have a few scrumptious dresses (mostly from weddings) that I wish I could wear all the time but they are just too romantic for a typical night out. I love this particular Anthropologie dress for it's fancy-boho style. This is an all-occasion dress that can be just as gorgeous dressed up with heels and accessories (wedding) or dressed down with a casual denim jacket and ankle boots (date night.)

It’s memorable in its vibrant colors and lovely print, but not so much that it couldn’t be worn to multiple affairs. This dress is even more exquisite in person. The upper bodice is adorned with detailed sequins, delicate beading, and dainty rosettes. The empire waist and tiered full skirt are perfect for formal events in early fall, spring and summer. It’s really a light soft fabric and the dark turquoise against the pale blues and oxblood reds give it garden party appeal.

In this particular stage in life, weddings are what come to mind when I think of occasion dressing. As a guest as you want to spiff it up, but you don’t want to out-shine the bride (or wedding party.) Wearing white is out of the question and black can be a snooze-fest. So just how fancy should one go?

Coming from a girl who likes to go glam, when in doubt, opt for elegance. Being well dressed is a beautiful form of politeness.
