The Sweatshirt Edit

Winter Layers

You know when you come across something that just fits - not just in size, but in personality?

That's how it was when my sister discovered these comfy cotton-terry pullovers at our most beloved place to shop, Anthropologie.

I absolutely LOVE all three of these sweatshirts.

Kelly bought the "CIAO" and I immediately wanted it. I almost bought the same one, until I saw the other styles. I followed suit with "LA FEMME."

It took little convincing for my youngest sister to get the "JOIE DE VIVRE." We all share clothes, and I know these will be on rotation, given their ease and versatility.

While the humble sweatshirt might be something most throw on to run an errand or hit up the gym, it's also become a super-chic layering staple. I love a slouchy, relaxed look for that low-maintance, off-duty vibe.

Elevated weekend wear, all-the-time wear.

I got mine in a small, and probably could have gotten away with an XS, given the "oversize" nature of the look. (I like to have a little more room!) If you are on the fence about a clever graphic sweatshirt, go for it! Not only are they comfortable, but they are stylish and cute. Perfect for when you don't know what to wear, great paired with jeans and boots/flats. Lately I've been into the juxtaposition of a flouncy skirt with a casual top. I could see any of these paired with feminine tulle and sporty sneakers.

As you can see, over the holidays my besties/sisters were in town (que: we're the three best friends that anybody could have!) and we all cozied up in our graphic sweatshirts for a little fun in the snow.

I convinced Rob to hang the tree swing and wrap it in twinkle lights. I love how it turned out! When it's all lit up it reminds me of a little doll house accessory lol. It's been too cold to go outside and play again, but I can't wait to get some sure-to-be-entertaining pictures with the kids!

It was magical to have a white Christmas, but now that the temps are dipping even lower into the negatives, I would recommend buying and wearing all three of these at once!!

Do you think sweatshirts can be stylish? Which one would you pick? I'd love to know in the comments below!

Boots & Bags

Kitten Heels // Round Minaudière

With the change of the seasons a quick way to update your wardrobe is with a few new statement pieces – a pair of shiny new kicks, a chic structured bag, or a new set of shades.  (Or in my case, all the above!)

The Shoe

Little white ankle boots have been on my “list.” When I stumbled across these faux patent ankles boots at Zara, (and for a good price) I knew they were going to be my favorite newbies for fall. Bight white pops against the moody autumn skies and looks so cool with everything - dresses, jeans, and skirts. Be warned - they run a little small. I wish I would have sized up, but after breaking them in they have little give and are easy to walk in, with the low kitten heel.

The Bag

I shamelessly stalk Zara for outfit inspiration and fell in love with this minaudière - a small, decorative handbag often without handles or a strap.

This one features a handle, and an adjustable removable shoulder strap. It’s simple gold metal hardware is so 60s-mod. It reminds me of a bag one of my Barbie dolls had growing up! Maybe it was the nostalgia but I am so in love with this little purse. I know it will be the perfect companion for date nights and events around town. Just the right size for a phone, lipstick and card/money holder.

As for the rest of my outfit, the distinct golden/mustard yellow color dress is an oldie from Anthropologie that also has that retro drop-waist silhouette I love, and would be super-cute with  over-the-knee boots!

The denim jacket with distressed design, "J'adore Rock N' Roll" graphic on the back, was a sale item I happened upon for $10 folks! Playful and in that classic shade of blue, it will be a great laying item come cooler days.

You guys know black and white dominate my wardrobe, and these white boots and black bag will be sure to mix and match with ease, while elevating an everyday look!

When searching for new statement pieces for fall, make sure they are things that will easily transition into your own wardrobe. Stick to a color pallet, think about what makes sense for the season (boots, coats, hats, scarves) and avoid anything too “trendy” that you might only wear once or twice. These should be things that you know will get lots use.

I hope you all have a wonderful rest of the week and make sure to share your new fall finds in the comments below! I love hearing/seeing what everyone is wearing as the temps start to cool!

Cheers babes!

The Shirtdress

RJW_5282.jpg

Yeassss to breezy dressing for the long weekend!

I found this lightweight shirtdress dress back in the spring and have been styling it non-stop all summer. Local boutique Ragazza carries one of my favorite blogger brands -Cupcakes and Cashmere – you have to check out the darling pieces from her collection in their store!

It’s been the perfect piece to slip into for warm summer days spent walking around the farmer’s market or exploring the tiny shops around the peninsula. Bergman’s Orchards is up by the lake house and we pull off the side of the road to have a gander almost every weekend! They have the absolute sweetest peaches (as seen here) and the freshest selections of yummy fruits and veggies.

I stocked up on my produce and maybe snuck a bite into a peach or two before we left the grounds!!

If you are looking for fall/summer transitional pieces, a cotton fabric button down shirtdress is always a comfortable choice. I like this one for the nautical faded stripes and slender tie that defines the waist. If you want to layer it up, try a pair of camel boots and a denim jacket.

You guys know I am a huge proponent of “the third piece” so slide on some shades and pop a sunhat on your head and your ready for meandering walks, a bite to eat, or a 5-o’ clock “somewhere” drink!

Also, did you notice my jewelry? These earrings are by Kentucky Gypsy, the new jewelry collection I am currently obsessed with! (You can read more about the collection here.)

I hope you all enjoy the long holiday weekend! Now, home again, home again, jiggety-jig.

***This weekend remember to appreciate the small things my loves. I have had the people of Huston on my heart, and it’s been a reminder that everything we have is given to us and can so easily be taken away. I know I will be taking some extra time while I am with my family to let my loved ones they are SO loved and attempt to keep my mind in a state of thankfulness. As always I appreciate you following along! Cheers!
